Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup: India Beats Wales 3–1 in Playoff Match
The Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team showcased a powerful performance in the FIH Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup 2025, securing a 3–1 victory over Wales in a 9th–16th place playoff match. With aggressive gameplay and smart execution, India maintained control for most of the contest, proving their strength and determination to finish the tournament on a high note.
Fast Start and Early Pressure
Right from the first whistle, the Indian team pressed forward relentlessly. Within just 30 seconds, they earned their first penalty corner, demonstrating their intent to dominate. Although the chance was not converted, the early pressure set the tone for the match.
Wales soon got an opportunity to take the lead through
a penalty stroke, but Indian goalkeeper Nidhi pulled off a brilliant save, keeping the match level and boosting the team’s confidence.
Indian Attack Shines with Three Goals
India’s attacking efforts paid off in the 14th minute, when Heena Bano found the back of the net, giving the team a well-deserved 1–0 lead. Maintaining possession and pushing forward with strong midfield support, India continued to cause trouble for the Welsh defense.
The pressure resulted in another goal in the 24th minute, this time from Sunalita Toppo, doubling India’s advantage. Just after halftime, Ishika scored in the 31st minute with a confident strike to make it 3–0, extending India’s dominance.
Wales Fight Back but India Holds Firm
Despite trailing by three goals, Wales refused to give up. They created some attacking chances and finally broke through in the 52nd minute, when Eloise Moet scored to reduce the deficit. However, India’s defense remained composed, preventing any further goals and securing the win comfortably.
Strong Team Effort and Tactical Discipline
India’s well-organized defense, quick passing, and successful penalty-corner variations were key contributors to the victory. Goalkeeper Nidhi’s crucial save early in the match also played an important role in preventing Wales from gaining momentum.
