Protests Erupt in Delhi Over Hindu Man’s Lynching in Bangladesh

Bangladesh High Commission protests erupted in New Delhi on Tuesday after reports of a Hindu man’s lynching in Bangladesh triggered nationwide outrage. The Bangladesh High Commission protests saw Hindu organisations demanding justice for the victim and protection of minorities in the neighbouring country.

Hindu Organisations Lead Demonstrations

Several Hindu groups, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagran Manch and Sarbo Bharatiya Hindi Bangali Sangathan, led the protests. Protesters gathered early in the morning and raised slogans demanding justice for the victim. Meanwhile, similar demonstrations also took place in parts of Telangana and West Bengal.

Police Stop March Towards High Commission

Tensions rose when protesters attempted to march towards the Bangladesh High Commission. However, Delhi Police blocked their movement using multiple layers of barricades. Protesters pushed past the first barricade, but security personnel stopped them near the outer cordon.

As the crowd grew, police detained several activists to prevent further escalation. Meanwhile, authorities deployed paramilitary forces across the diplomatic area to maintain order.

Heavy Security Deployed in Diplomatic Zone

To prevent unrest, police strengthened security around the High Commission. Officials erected three layers of barricades and stationed additional personnel. According to a senior police officer, the administration took preventive measures to ensure law and order.

Although the situation remained tense for some time, police eventually dispersed the crowd. No major injuries were reported during the protest.

Protesters Demand Minority Protection

During the demonstration, protesters raised slogans such as “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and demanded an end to violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. VHP leader Surendra Kumar Gupta described the killing as brutal and inhuman.

Moreover, he said the incident reflected a broader threat to religious freedom and human rights. He added that Hindu organisations organised the protest to seek justice and draw global attention to the issue.

Demonstrations Spread Across States

Meanwhile, protests spread beyond Delhi. In Siliguri, West Bengal, Hindu groups staged a demonstration outside the Bangladesh Visa Application Centre. At the same time, activists in Hyderabad’s Kothapet area held similar protests condemning attacks on minorities.

VHP leaders urged the Indian government to take firm diplomatic steps. They also called for international pressure to ensure minority safety in Bangladesh.

Lynching Incident Sparks Widespread Anger

The protests followed the killing of 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, on December 18. According to reports, a mob attacked him over blasphemy allegations. The assailants later hung him from a tree and set him on fire.

As news of the incident spread, anger intensified across India and abroad.

Bangladesh Responds Amid Rising Tensions

Meanwhile, Bangladesh summoned the Indian High Commissioner to express concern over protests near its missions. Dhaka later suspended consular and visa services in New Delhi, Siliguri and Agartala, citing security reasons.

However, Indian authorities stated that the protests remained controlled. They also confirmed that security forces continue to monitor the situation closely. Follow for more updates on FM News.
