Mayawati – an icon for Dalits, is all ready to do a political comeback which aims to regain the lost ground for Bahujan Samaj Party before Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in 2027. The reasons for her comeback in the political arena are mentioned below

1. Regaining The Dalit Vote Bank

When the Bahujan Samaj Party did not secure any seat in the lok sabha elections of 2024, a significant portion of NonJatav Dalit votes shifted towards Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress Alliance.
However, it leads BSP to reconnect with its base which further leads to a stronger comeback. Mayawati emphasised that the BSP is a true representative of the Dalit community.

She directly challenges the PDA formula, i.e., “PICHDA, DALIT, ALPSANKHYAK” of the Samajwadi Party which has secured votes against BSP. She claims that Dalits can also make an autonomous political party on their own.

2. A Strategic and Designed Move For Political Positioning

By organizing the mega rally, Mayawati wanted to emphasize on the strength and resilience of the party. She has mentioned that the party will contest the polls independently. Mayawati has also attacked the rival parties more, particularly Congress and Samajwadi Party, as compared to the ruling party, i.e., the Baharatiya Janata Party.

3. Internal Party Rejuvenation

One of the main focuses of the BSP is to rebuild its organisational structure at the grassroot level with an aim to connect with the supporters of the party at the ground level. In order to attract and connect with
the young voters, Mayawati has brought her nephew Akash Anand into a prominent leadership role as national coordinator. One of the goals of Mayawati behind this move is to strengthen the organization of the BSP under her guidance. Apart from it, restoring organizational morale is another area of focus for Mayawati. Rebuilding the morale of party workers is one of the reasons behind the high-visibility rally of Mayawati. She wanted to portray that the BSP will make a stronger comeback despite declining relevance and electoral fade.

In nutshell, the re-entry of Mayawati into the political arena carries an in-depth meaning. In the fragmented world of “I”, it emphasizes on the emotion and assertion of “we-ness” among the Dalit-Bahujans.
