Goa Fire Tragedy: Sawant Government Begins Demolition of Luthra Brothers’ Nightclub
The Goa fire tragedy nightclub demolition started after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant ordered strict action against illegal structures linked to the Luthra brothers. Demolition Begins at Romeo Lane Beach Club
A part of the Romeo Lane restaurant at Vagator is now being demolished as authorities enforce the Chief Minister’s directions. The restaurant is owned by Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra, the same brothers who also operated Birch by Romeo Lane, the nightclub where the deadly December 7 blaze occurred.
Officials stated that unsafe structures and beach encroachments formed a major part of the demolition. Tourism Deputy Director Dhiraj Wagle confirmed that the government will remove 198 square meters of illegal construction. He said the tourism department will continue clearing unauthorized establishments along the Goa coastline to ensure public safety.
Luthra Brothers Under Global Watch
Meanwhile, the Goa Police have intensified their search for the Luthra brothers, who fled India shortly after the incident. Authorities have asked the CBI to coordinate with Interpol for issuing a Blue Notice against Saurabh and Gaurav.
A Blue Notice helps international agencies gather information about a suspect’s identity, location, and movement. It does not order an arrest but assists in tracking a person involved in an ongoing criminal investigation.
Officials explained that a stricter Red Notice — which seeks the detention of a fugitive abroad — can be issued only after the police file a chargesheet and secure a non-bailable warrant. Since the investigation is still underway, the Blue Notice is the first step toward locating the accused.
Government Toughens Its Stance After 25 Deaths
The fire at Birch by Romeo Lane sparked nationwide concern about safety violations in Goa’s nightlife industry. According to investigators, the club had a high number of visitors on the night of the incident. The blaze spread rapidly, trapping many inside and leading to one of the worst fire tragedies the state has witnessed.
CM Pramod Sawant has assured strict action against illegal constructions and negligence. He stated that Goa cannot allow commercial operators to endanger lives. The ongoing demolition marks the beginning of a wider crackdown on unauthorized beach properties and unsafe nightlife venues.
