Sergio Gor Sets Tone as US Ambassador to India

The next-level agenda for India-US relations took centre stage when US Ambassador Sergio Gor outlined his priorities in his first public address in India. He said the India-US relations next-level push will deepen cooperation across trade, security, and technology.

Strong Personal Bond Between Leaders

Referring to the ties between the two countries’ leaders, Gor highlighted the friendship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. He said real friends may disagree at times, but always find a way to resolve differences. Gor stressed that the relationship between Modi and Trump is genuine and built on mutual trust, which helps strengthen broader diplomatic engagement.

India’s Global Importance Acknowledged

Calling India the world’s largest nation, Gor acknowledged that advancing bilateral goals is not an easy task. However, he said both sides remain determined to achieve meaningful outcomes. According to him, India’s scale, influence, and strategic importance make the partnership critical for regional and global stability.

Beyond Trade: Focus on Multiple Sectors

While trade remains a key pillar of the relationship, Gor made it clear that cooperation extends far beyond economic ties. He said India and the US will continue to work closely in areas such as security, counter-terrorism, energy, technology, education, and health. He noted that these sectors form the backbone of long-term strategic cooperation between the two democracies.

Trade Talks and the Reciprocity Agenda

Gor confirmed that both countries are actively engaged in firming up a trade deal. He cited comments by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who described the coming period as a year of reciprocity based on fair trade, mutual respect, and shared security. Gor added that discussions remain ongoing and that the next round of talks is scheduled for the following day.

India to Join Pax Silica Alliance

In a major announcement, Gor said India will soon become a full member of the Pax Silica alliance. He stated that India will be invited to join the alliance next month. The initiative aims to build a secure, resilient, and innovation-driven global silicon supply chain under US leadership.

Looking Ahead at Strategic Partnership
