ED Moves Apex Court Over Alleged Obstruction

Allegations Against CM and Senior Police Officials

Searches Linked to I-PAC Operations
The incident occurred during searches at premises linked to Indian PAC Consulting Pvt Ltd (I-PAC). ED officers conducted the operation under Section 17 of the PMLA. The search covered the residence of I-PAC director Pratik Jain. The agency cited evidence of over ₹20 crore in alleged proceeds of crime.
Claims of Forced Entry and Evidence Seizure
The ED alleged that the Chief Minister arrived at the premises on January 8. Senior officials and nearly 100 police personnel accompanied her. The agency claimed officers faced intimidation and restraint. It also alleged that officials took away seized documents and digital devices.
Coal Mining Money Laundering Case
The ED said it is probing a multi-state coal mining scam. It claimed illegal mining generated proceeds worth ₹2,742.32 crore. The agency said laundering caused losses to the public exchequer. The investigation remains ongoing.
Why Local FIR Was Ruled Out
The ED argued that filing an FIR with the state police would be futile. It pointed out that the police report to the Home Department. The Chief Minister heads the department. The agency expressed concern over a fair investigation.

The agency invoked Articles 14, 21, and 22 of the Constitution. It claimed wrongful confinement of its officers during the search. The ED also cited robbery and dacoity under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023.
Demand for an Independent CBI Probe
