Chhattisgarh Road Accident: Truck–Scorpio Crash Kills Five in Janjgir-Champa
On December 31st, NH-49 near the village of Sukli saw a horrific road accident occur in Chhattisgarh. An intoxicated driver of a speeding truck collided head-on with a vehicle carrying guests returning from a wedding celebration. Unfortunately, the crash left five individuals dead. Among those killed were two military personnel, and three additional injured parties required hospitalisation for treatment of their injuries.
Returning From a Wedding Celebration
A group of 8 individuals from Navagarh went to attend a marriage ceremony located in Pantora Village and were returning late in the evening when they were travelling home at approximately 22:30 hours. At that time, a Scorpio vehicle was approaching Sukli, and at the same moment, another vehicle, which was a truck, was travelling at an excessive rate of speed from the opposite direction. The truck driver lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with the Scorpio vehicle.
A very violent impact occurred. Pieces of the SUV flew in all directions. Neighbours heard loud explosions and cries from injured passengers, and they ran to the location and attempted to assist the victims.
Quick Rescue Response
The villagers immediately contacted the Janjgir police, who arrived within minutes with an ambulance service. Three deceased passengers occurred immediately after arriving at the scene, while others were immediately sent from the accident site to the Janjgir Champa District Hospital for treatment. During their treatment at the Janjgir-Champa District Hospital, two additional passengers died.
The death of two Army personnel added to the grief of the families and the entire community. Three survivors remain in critical condition under continuous medical care.
Investigation and Safety Appeal
Both the vehicles involved in the accident had been impounded by the police for further investigation. The police believe the driver of the truck was operating the vehicle at a high rate of speed. The final report will provide information regarding the actual cause of the accident.
Law enforcement extended its condolences to the family members of individuals who lost their lives in this incident. In addition, they requested that all drivers remain cautious while driving and obey all traffic laws when travelling during night hours on highways.
