The Chintoor Maredumilli Bus Accident shocked Andhra Pradesh on Friday morning after a private bus overturned on the ghat road, killing nine people and injuring more than 22. The tragedy occurred when the driver lost control due to heavy fog near a sharp curve.

Devotees Were Returning From a Temple Visit

The bus had 37 passengers on board. After the group offered prayers at the Sri Rama temple in Bhadrachalam around 4:30 AM, they continued their journey toward Annavaram. However, thick fog surrounded the ghat section, and the vehicle overturned while navigating a dangerous curve. The bus slid toward the valley but got stuck before falling deeper, which prevented a larger tragedy.

Officials Clarify Passenger Count

Early reports mentioned 35 passengers, including two drivers. Later, police confirmed that 37 passengers were on the bus and that six people escaped without injuries. SP Amit Bardar explained that four injured passengers remain in critical condition. He also pointed out that the quick response from locals helped rescue teams reach the victims without delay.

Rescue Teams Move Swiftly

Chintoor police and fire personnel reached the accident spot within minutes. They pulled injured passengers from the damaged bus and shifted them to hospitals. Meanwhile, traffic on the Chintoor–Maredumilli route stopped completely as rescue operations continued.

Authorities Monitor the Situation Closely

ASR District Collector Dinesh Kumar stated that teams moved the injured to hospitals in Chintoor and Bhadrachalam. Although officials are still investigating the cause, they believe heavy fog and sharp curves played major roles. Moreover, the identification process for the deceased is underway.

Leaders Respond With Support

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow and called the incident “heartbreaking.” He instructed officers to provide the best medical treatment to the injured. Additionally, Minister Lokesh assured families that the government will extend full support.

Home Minister Anita visited the accident site along with Minister Sandhya Rani. They reviewed rescue efforts, coordinated with emergency teams and ensured that ambulances and police vehicles reached the location quickly.
