Gurdaspur Encounter: Two Criminals Injured in Heavy Exchange of Fire

Gurdaspur Encounter turned into a heavy gunfire situation on Sunday night when two armed criminals opened fire at a police blockade in the village of Daowal, according to the Danik Jagran. Police retaliated immediately, injuring both suspects and recovering two pistols from the location. A detailed investigation is now underway to check their criminal activities.

Criminals Open Fire During Blockade

According to the police, officers had been conducting intensive night patrols and setting up checkpoints across the district for the past several days to curb growing criminal activity. On the night of the incident, a police blockade was placed on a strategic route near Daowal village.

As police began inspecting vehicles, two suspects-identified as Naveen and Kush-approached the checkpoint. After inspecting, they opened fire on the officers in an attempt to escape. The sudden attack forced forced to retaliate immediately in self-defense.

Two Suspects Injured and Arrested

In the exchange of gunfire, both were injured. The police neutralized the threat and captured them before they could flee. They were promptly shifted to the Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

Officials confirmed that two pistols were recovered from the possession of the accused. A forensic team was also deployed to examine the weapons and gather evidence from the scene to support the ongoing investigation.

Police Investigation Underway

Superintendent of Police (SP) Jugraj Singh reached the spot shortly after the incident. He said that the Criminals initiated the firing, leaving the police with no option but to respond with force. He added that legal procedures are being followed, and the police are digging deeper into the background of the suspects.
