The Ultra Cycle Continues

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series is barely settled into store shelves, and the rumour mill has already moved on. Such is the rhythm of the Ultra cycle: every year, months before launch, the leaks begin — renders, chipset whispers, camera gossip. The Galaxy S27 Ultra, expected early next year, is now the industry’s favourite guessing game.

Here’s the thing about Samsung leaks: they’re usually right. The company’s supply chain is vast, and by the time a phone is six months from launch, its shape is more or less decided. So let’s separate the plausible from the fantasy.

Samsung Galaxy concept — Galaxy S27 Ultra leaks and expected specs

Design: Evolution, Not Revolution

Don’t expect Samsung to reinvent the Ultra. The flat display, the embedded S Pen, the camera rings sitting directly on the glass back — this design language is now iconic, and Samsung knows better than to mess with it. The most credible renders suggest refinements instead: slimmer bezels, a slightly lighter titanium frame, and new colourways.

What might actually change is the feel. Each Ultra generation has shaved grams and millimetres, and the S27 is expected to continue that diet — making the biggest phone in Samsung’s lineup a little less of a handful.

Camera: The 200MP Question

The Ultra’s camera system is its identity, and the 200MP main sensor isn’t going anywhere. The leaks point to a larger sensor with better low-light performance rather than a megapixel bump — the right call, since computational photography matters more than raw resolution now.

The periscope zoom is where the real fight is. Rivals have pushed high-magnification optical zoom hard, and Samsung is expected to answer with improved telephoto hardware and heavier AI processing. Night-mode video, the current weak spot, is rumoured to be a focus area.

Galaxy S25 Ultra — what the Galaxy S27 Ultra could improve

Performance and Battery

The S27 Ultra will almost certainly run on the next Snapdragon flagship — the successor to the 8 Elite — paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM. In India, Samsung has stuck with Snapdragon for the Ultra line, and there’s no reason to expect a change.

Battery is the sleeper story. Silicon-carbon battery tech, already appearing in rival flagships, could let Samsung bump capacity without adding bulk. Faster charging — 65W or beyond — would finally answer a long-standing complaint.

Price and Launch Timeline

Expect the Galaxy S27 Ultra to launch in late January or early February, following Samsung’s usual Unpacked rhythm. Pricing will likely start around Rs 1,30,000 in India — the Ultra has never been cheap, and it isn’t about to start.

The competition won’t sit still: Apple’s next iPhone and the usual Chinese flagships will crowd the same premium window. But the Ultra’s formula — the S Pen, the cameras, the Galaxy AI features — remains unique. If the leaks hold, the S27 Ultra won’t reinvent the wheel. It’ll just make it rounder.
