Trump Highlights Achievements in Year-End Address
US President Donald Trump outlined what he described as the major successes of his second term during a 19-minute year-end address to the nation on Wednesday night. Speaking in prime time, Trump said he inherited serious challenges and claimed his administration delivered rapid results across immigration, the economy, and global conflicts.
President Claims He “Inherited a Mess”
Opening his speech, Trump said his administration had spent the past eleven months repairing damage left by the previous government. “Eleven months ago, I inherited a mess, and I’m fixing it,” he said, adding that his leadership restored confidence and stability to the country while reversing several earlier policies.
Trump Says His Government Ended Eight Wars
Trump claimed that his administration had successfully ended eight wars in ten months, although he did not specify them in the address. Over the past year, he has repeatedly asserted that his leadership helped resolve conflicts involving India and Pakistan, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Israel and Iran, Kosovo and Serbia, and several other regions. He also said his administration eliminated the Iranian nuclear threat and brought an end to the war in Gaza.
Middle East Peace and Hostage Releases Emphasised
According to Trump, ending the Gaza conflict marked a historic moment for the Middle East. He claimed that his actions helped bring peace to the region for the first time in thousands of years. Trump also highlighted the release of hostages, stating that both living and deceased captives had been returned.
Immigration Crackdown Takes Centre Stage
A major focus of the speech was immigration. Trump said his administration had secured the US border and reversed what he called a “colossal border invasion.” He blamed high housing costs and job losses on large-scale migration under the previous government, accusing Congress of enabling unchecked border crossings.
Trump Blames Migrants for Housing Crisis
Trump argued that foreign migrants contributed significantly to rising rents and housing shortages. He claimed that more than 60 per cent of rental market growth came from migrants and accused the previous administration of providing taxpayer-funded housing while American housing costs surged.
Reverse Migration and Job Growth Claims
Trump stated that the US is now witnessing “reverse migration”, with migrants leaving the country. He also claimed that since his return to office, 100 per cent of net job creation has gone to American-born citizens. According to Trump, this marked a dramatic shift from the year before his election, when all job growth allegedly benefited foreign migrants.
Address Reinforces Trump’s Core Political Message
The year-end speech reinforced Trump’s central campaign themes of strong borders, economic nationalism, and assertive foreign policy. As the administration heads into the new year, Trump positioned his leadership as decisive, results-driven, and focused on restoring American strength at home and abroad.
